Noose
Bakura Ryou recieved the Millennium (Senen in the Japanese version) Ring as a present from his father, who had acquired it during a trip to Egypt. He told Bakura the Ring had a connection with Duel Monsters, something that is elaborated on later in the series. Bakura commonly wears it hanging from a cord-like necklace, sometimes under his clothing. A known holder of the Ring before Bakura is Mahaado, a loyal priest once under the command of Yami Yuugi during the latter's reign as pharaoh. The Ring is a large golden ring with five spikes dangling from loops on its circumfrence, and a flat triangle in the center. The latter is marked with the eye symbol common to all Millennium Items. It is possessed of many different powers, including:
- The ability to detect other Items or lead the owner to something else he wants to find, the spikes pointing in the ideal direction (various episodes, including "Intense Conflict! Blue-Eyes vs. Red-Eyes", "Dark Duel of the Maze", "Strategy Nil: The Unstoppable Toon Legion", "The Broken Millennium Puzzle", etc.)
- The ability to transfer souls to inanimate objects ("Dark Flare! Red-Eyes Black Dragon!")
- The ability to transfer beings and objects to and from the Shadow Realm ("Dark Flare! Red-Eyes Black Dragon" and "Trap of the Metamol Pot! The Flame Swordsman's Crisis!")
- The ability to tap into the Shadow Realm to bring Duel Monsters and card effects to life ("Counter Attack Starts! Mind Shift")
- The ability to partially erase a person's memory ("The Night Before the Battle! Pegasus's Secret")
- The ability to eavesdrop on conversations, possibly by temporarily enhancing hearing ("Final Match, Yuugi vs. Pegasus").
Honda Hiroto once attempted to throw the Ring away, but it was quickly seen again. This could indicate that Bakura Ryuou is bonded to the Ring. Sealed inside the Ring is the soul of a tomb robber, who has total control of the Ring's powers and can posess the owner.
The exact connection between the owner and the tomb robber has yet to be determined, though it's possible that Bakura Ryou is his reincarnation, the extreme differences in their personalities attributable to the fact that reincarnated people traditionally have no memory of their other selves. The tomb robber is also called "Bakura" and looks like a tanned, muscular Yami Bakura with a scarred face.
It's interesting to note how some of the symoblic meanings of a ring could apply to Bakura. A ring can represent an unending cycle, or the last link in a chain, both of which fit with the possibility of him being bonded to the Ring.
